Snot that coming out from nose not only appears when you are cold. But in several conditions such as allergies or trauma also can trigger snot come out. Snot can distinguish between normal or infected. Snot is usually produced by cells lining in sinus tract. This fluid function is to keep the nasal membranes (nose) remain moist, as well as useful for fighting infections and irritation. Snot which appears not only caused by infection. Some conditions can also trigger the snot come out like allergies, trauma (impact), irritation, the use of an inhaler, nasal anatomy problems or due to air pollution.
Dr. Jennifer Shu from Childern’s Medical Group revealed, If the snot comes from allergies, trauma (impact), irritation, the use of an inhaler, nasal anatomy problems or due to air pollution, it does not contain bacterial infection, virus or another microorganism. Not colored or clear cnot is not infected snot. If the snot is yellow, green or brown, then this is a sign of infection in the upper respiratory tract. The volume of snot that comes out could be a sign of sinus infection caused by bacteria. When the snot are many and often, then it’s a sign of infection.
Snot which containing bacteria is usually accompanied by headache, pain in facial area, fever, bad breath, cannot smell any odor, ear disorder or continuosly cough. In bacterial infections generally last more than 7 days and snot that coming out is even worse. If caused by bacteria, then needed antibiotics to cure but not for viral infections. “But most of these infections are caused by flu viruses that could be dissapear in 7 to 10 days, or it could be due to bacterial infection,” said Dr. Jennifer Shu.
