Food and beverages which consumed by pregnant women greatly influence the development of the fetus. New studies found that physical development of babies senses influenced by food from the mother. Many teories states, what mother ate will affect the baby. Biologist experts from Colorado University do research to prove and find the causes why it happen, and also how foods can affect in baby’s senses, especially sense of smell. Researchers said, smell of food which consumed by pregnant women can trigger glomeruli growth. Structure of the sense of smell connects the smell from nasal cavity to the brain.
Besides the smell of food, research also found that the most powerful smell while in the womb is the smell of his/her own mother. “This development system is very important, because there is possibility the baby immediately recognize his/her mother’s smell,” said Dr. Josephine Todrank, the research leader as qouted by detik.com and Telegraph.
The results of this study has been published in Proceedings of The Royal Society B.
