Does your baby often cry for no reason? If it were not for colic, your baby may get bloating. Infants under four months are easily affected by bloating, because the digestive organs are still not good. The result is gas gathered in the stomach or intestine, then become bloated. Do not panic, identify the causes and symptoms and find out the solution.
Causes of bloating :
- Breastfeeding with improper position, so that air is also swallowed.
- Babies do not get fed when hungry, so that air entered the stomach.
- For babies who can not stand with lactose in milk formula, then the lactose will be gas in the intestines.
- For babies aged 6 months, do not provide additional food other than milk. This is because the transition from the milk to solid food could lead to disruption in food digestion. The risk is accumulation of gas in the digestive tract.
Symptoms of bloating :
- Crying continuously.
- Pulling his/her legs toward the abdomen
- Often to fart
- Hard stomach after eating.
Aid measures :
- Put a warm cloth over the baby’s stomach.
- Massage the baby by rubbing the stomach toward the colon, and descending again. Do it when the baby is relaxed or not cry.
- Baby face down, so that the gas in the stomach will look for a higher place and coming out as a fart.
- try to burp your baby
- Physician or doctor action is required if the above methods have not succeeded. May need to check imaging (radiology) to find the cause of bloating.
