Possibility of fractures should always be considered, especially in the crash impact. The open fracture, a broken bone sticking out through an open wound. Aid measures should be very careful, because the movement of broken bones, can injure blood vessels in the vicinity. Infection can also occur.
Because there are many kinds of broken bones, then I’ll post in two parts.
-Skull
Aid measures :
Patients should not be too much lifted up, too much movement, it will exacerbate the situation. Clean the mouth, nose and throat from blood, mucus or vomit which may interfere respiratory. When there is no sign of vertebral fractures, lay patients with head lower than his body. Clean the wound from dirt and stop when there is bleeding. If it is an open fracture, do not wash the wound with any liquid. Blood clots or objects that enter into the wound must not be removed except by a nurse or doctor. Cover the wound with sterile gauze, so that there is no longer something that entered. Take the patient to the hospital, immedietely patients who were still conscious, DO NOT throw dirt on the nose by sneezing.
-JAW
A broken jaw is usually easy to recognize (Jaw shapes are no longer straight), patients will feel pain when the jaw is moved and will be swelling in the jaw area.
Aid measures :
To alleviate pain and prevent swelling, compress the jaw with ice. swollen jaw with a triangular bandage. To reduce the pain, give pain-fighting drugs (antalgin, aspirin, etc.). Then, immediately brought to hospitals, try not to moving the jaw too much. to drink, use a straw.
-NECK
Neck bone is part of a series of spine. Therefore, if broken, it will be classified as a severe accident. Even worse if the marrow bone were damaged, because it protects a lot of nerve (including respiratory nerve). Broken neck could be due to a hard blow on the nape, or because an accident. In a car accident (hard collision), the victim was thrown forward and hit the windshield then pushed to the back and neck fractures.
The signs are neck bent too far to the back, hands and feet do not feel anything (even though stabbed), and if the victim was still conscious, then he/she can not move both of it.

Aid measures :
If there is bleeding in the neck, it must be overcome immediately because there are large vessels in the neck. The victim will quickly lose blood in case of bleeding in the neck and then shock. Stop the bleeding by pressing the base of his veins. Also note if there is bleeding on his head. This must be cleaned so as not to impede breathing.
If necessary, give artificial respiration. With notes, do not change the position of the neck. Simply by opening the patient’s mouth after placing a pillow under the neck, then give artificial respiration from mouth to mouth.
After the above steps implemented, give a bandage on his neck to restrict movement, and then lift the patient onto a stretcher. After that, take patient to the hospital immediately.
-COLLARBONE (CLAVICE)
Collarbone or clavicle is the bone that connecting the sternum and shoulder. This bone is located superficially under the skin, so is palpable. Especially if the person is skinny. when the collarbone was broken, it will be seen leaning forward and painful. Around the collarbone there are many large main vessels, so that when the bone was broken, should be considered the wounds on these vessels.
Aid measures :
Use a “backpack” bandage on patients (see picture). How to bandage :
- From the left shoulder, cross the bandage through back (spine) to the armpit.
- Next, from the bottom-right armpit across the chest to the upper right shoulder.
- Cross from the right shoulder into the left armpit. if you do it right, then your position will be same with number one [1]. Do repeated as often as needed, then lock the bandage with a pin.
Better, give a cloth or fabric under the armpit so that the bandage does not injure the skin.
-FOREARM
There is only one forearm in each arm, This is the kind of long bones (bone pipe). signs of fracture are : pain at the fracture when pressed and extreme pain when moved.
Aid measures :
attach splint along the forearm and then attach mitela. If the broken bone near the elbow, elbow usually can not be folded. Put a splint along the arm, and let the arm in a straight condition without hanging.
-WRIST, PALM AND FINGER
Wrist joint is composed by several small bones. if one broke, wrist would be sore when moved. sometimes wrist fractures, followed by fractures of the forearm. Because of wrist fractures that cause stiffness in the joints, the patient should immediately be brought to the hospital. The first aid is no different with a broken forearm, it’s just that the use of splint is extended to the palm of hand. palms can be broken when hit by hard blow, for example is boxing. If broken, before being taken to hospitals, wear splint with curved fingers. Between the splint and the palm of the hand, put a solid cotton pads. Splint is mounted straight and covers the tip of forearms. For finger fractures, splint can be made with objects around you. Can be from wood, bamboo, ice cream spoon or wire.
