A recent study showed compounds that exist in the Blueberry could fight obesity by inhibiting fat formation in the body tissues. Women researchers at the University of Texas applying blueberry polyphenols on samples of rat tissue to see if the compound will stop some of the cells into fat storage cells. Those receiving the highest dose of blueberry polyphenols can reduces the fat molecules in the tissue by 73%. While the lowest dose can reduce by 27%.
Previous research has shown that polyphenols, found in blueberries and have health benefits, including lowering the risk of heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure. In addition, polyphenols may resist the development of fat cells and also push lipolysis adipogenesis, which is the breaking process of lipids (fats). However, the study authors wanted to see if new polyphenols may also inhibit obesity at the molecular level.
The scientists noted that their study was only a laboratory research. “We still need to test this dose in humans, to ensure there are no side effects,” says Mogh Shiwan, author of the study.
