Sudden infant death syndrome or SIDS, is a sudden death in baby when sleeping. For that you need to be alert, so that when the baby was sleeping, that SIDS is not happening. There are some actions so that SIDS does not occur.
- Avoid putting objects like bottles (pacifier), toys, rolling, etc. Because those things can distrupt the airways and blood circulation when the baby moves during sleep. Keep cleaning objects that are often used or come into contact with the baby.
- Do not sleep in the same bed without adequate protection. because the baby could be crushed, kicked, beaten, and others. The good is to separate the baby from the bed of parents. My intention is to put baby in a different bed, but still in one room. For parents who frequently move during sleep, then this should be applied.
- Do not smoke near the baby because it can increase the risk of SIDS. I really recommend that you quit smoking while pregnant and breastfeeding, either the father or the mother (parents of the baby). If parents get drunk or very tired, do not sleep next to baby. Parents should be alert and responsive if the baby crying and waking from sleep.
- Good position for sleeping babies is supine, so the baby can breathe freely. Avoid the prone position and tilted, which can interfere breathing and increase the occurrence of SIDS.
- It’s good the baby wearing baby box which separate from the parent’s bed. For baby, use a mattress that has a flat surface and not too soft, so baby can be stabe while sleeping. Do not let the baby sleep on a sofa, desk, chair or anything except the bed, mattress or mat. If your baby using baby bedding, I really recommend using a clean baby bedding. baby bedding that is used must be clean because it is attached directly on the baby, because this object is the easiest place for germs to settle.
- Keep the room environment in accordance with the babies’ comfort. Clean room, baby bed, and baby supplies with a routine to maintain hygiene and prevent bacteria. Keep the temperature of the room to comfort the baby, which is around 21 degrees Celsius with enough oxygen. Give a protective hood or cover if necessary, to avoid the flies and mosquitoes.
Hopefully your baby can sleep well and free of SIDS.
